Table runner and feet!

Today a friend of mine, Kitty, posted a photo on Facebook of a table runner she made.  I thought to myself that I have a lot of fabric in my stash and decided to run upstairs and throw one together.  I looked up a video from the Missouri Star Quilt Company on YouTube and this is how it turned out. 

Now, to be honest, I was making this to give to someone as a Christmas gift.  After getting this far with it, it's not quilted yet, I don't really think she will like it as much as I need it to be liked.  (Does this make ANY sense at all?)

Well, I showed it to Rick and he likes it, too.  We are keeping this for ourselves.  I will do some quilting on it and it will be ours!

Now to the feet.  I laid this on the floor to take a photo and my big clodhopper feet got in the picture too!!  LOL!

Bibs and burp cloths

I got to know a young man who was serving in the military, a veteran now, via Facebook.  I believe I've "known" him for probably 4 or 5 years.  He got married not too long ago and he and his bride had a baby girl who was born quite early.  I believe little Abigail weighed in at 3lb 13oz.  I wanted to send them a gift for their daughter so I made up these bibs and burp cloths.



I've been wanting/needing a new little wristlet to hold my phone, a few bucks, my license and credit card and my keys.  With this new car, I need to carry the key fob on me (or in my purse) so I can open the darned thing cause it's keyless!!  (Don't ask about what happened and I locked myself OUT of the car and my key fob, phone and purse INSIDE the first week we owned it!)

Anyway, I was starting to make a new wristlet (wanted it a little larger than my Vera Bradley one) and I also wanted a zippered compartment in it so my money and cards wouldn't fall out easily.  I was fiddling around with it and decided to wait because I didn't have the type of zipper that I wanted.

It was a nice afternoon, so I climbed on my trike/maxi scooter and took a ride.  I made a stop at Marshalls and found JUST what I wanted!  It was only $12!!  I couldn't pass it up.

While at Marshalls, I decided to pick up a Sweetest Day gift for Sophie and got her a toy.  I got a little catnip toy for Lily and then pulled into Panera to pick up a pecan roll for Rick.  Sweets for the sweet!!

Beautiful day, that's for sure.

Favors for friends

I know, I know...I should say no sometimes, but I'm so bad at it!  A young mother contacted me about making an apron for her child for Christmas.  I occasionally make something she needs now and again, but sometimes with my busy sewing schedule and deadlines that I impose on myself, I am really slow in getting items ready for her.

Not this time, though.  She contacted me one day, I took a day to think it over and ponder it in my mind and then said that I could accommodate her request.  One day in my sewing haven and this is complete.

I'm tickled with it.  Sent her a photo and she likes it.

Quilts in Review for 2017

It's been a while since I've entered anything and a lot seems to be happening.  This year was the "Year of the Quilt" and I made, completed and gifted 6 quilts...one for each of the grandchildren.

 The above left quilt was gifted to Hadley who had the first birthday of this year.  The above right was gifted to Treva with an April birthday.

The quilt below on the left was for Evelyn with a June birthday.  The right photo is of Anna's quilt with an August birthday that she shares with her twin brother.

 The quilt to the left is Nathan's and his birthday is shared with Anna.

To the right is Vivian's quilt and her birthday was in October.












It was a year of deadlines, that's for sure.  I don't enjoy giving myself deadlines, but that's just exactly what I did this year.  I had to put the pedal to the metal for a couple of these, but seeing the faces of my dear grand children was worth every stitch!!

January musings

It's been a LONG time since I've posted. 

The holidays were great this year, all the family came home and it was fabulous having everyone together in our home.  I think the children had a good time.  Our grown-up kids went out while we kept all the grand kids.  We had a great time with the grands and their parents;

I'm pretty sure the grown ups had a great time, too.

I've been sewing a bit.  My friend, Pat Hoaglin, asked me to make a bear and little blanket from her son's baby blanket.  Pat has a new granddaughter and wanted these things for her.  I'm not particularly fond of making stuffed animals, but she asked and I wanted to do it for her.

Before cutting into the blanket, I thought I should make a trial bear.  I went into my "stash" and found this blue fleece.  One of the neighbors just had a baby boy a couple of weeks ago, so this trial bear will be for baby Benjamin Douglas. 

Next week I'm going to be making something I've not tried before...pictures and updates will follow. 

A finish

I have a finish!  This is a wall hanging that's a gift for a special woman.  It is titled "Dance Like Nobody's Watching".

Drag-a-long, lovey...

Our neighbor, Emily is going to be an aunt again soon.  She asked me to create a little blankie for her new niece.  The shower is the first part of February, so I put a couple of things on "temporary hold" to get it done for her.  (Hate having to rush at the last minute.)

I have two quilts, one for Kelly, one for Jennifer, to finish up.  They are both over halfway quilted, but I want to do some extra stitches on them to make them just how I would like them to look.  Once they are done, I'm going on an "Organizing Terror".  I so want things organized and easy to use in my sewing area.

So, that's my news for now.

Curling Iron Cozy

I made this curling iron cozy as a Christmas gift for my daughter Kelly to use for travel. I

I'm so happy with the way it turned out...just hope it fits HER curling iron!!

Dance like no one is watching

This wall hanging was made for my daughter, Kelly...a gift for her birthday that was on October 17th. 

 

This wall hanging was made for my daughter, Jennifer.  Her birthday was November 19th. 

I hope they both enjoy them and think of me when they look at them.

Monkey, Elephant, Gray and ORANGE??!!

  I was asked to make 2 of my "Drag-a-long" blankets for a friend of my daughter.  She wanted the blankets to be gray with orange.

My mind was screaming,
"ORANGE and gray?", but as we all know, the customer is always right!  I called my customer and made sure that what she told me was in fact what she wanted.  Yes was her answer.  She wants these for friends who both have gray car seats and one has orange trim. "OK" I said and did a little Googling and did see that car seat.  It wasn't my style, but then, it doesn't have to be.

It's raining outside, so these pictures vary due to the lighting in my home.  Maybe later I can get a picture outdoors, but they are being delivered tomorrow

Vivian...4 now

Vivian is now 4.  In this picture she is only 3.  

You can see how she has matured by looking at the next two pictures!!

Seriously, she's a beautiful child, a deeply passionate and very determined.  She has an impish spirit upon occasion and she makes us laugh!  In the following pictures, her family has deemed her nickname, "Crazytrain"!

She is holding her banner for her bedroom door that Mimi (me) made for her for her birthday.  This year each of the grandchildren got one of these for their birthday in the colors I chose for them.  I hope they treasure them as they grow older and remember that their Mimi (and Papa) love them so very much.  Happy, happy birthday Vivian!  May your year be filled with wonder and love.  

This is the final grandchild birthday for the year, so now I need to come up with another project for next year's birthdays.

Treva starts preschool

Little Treva started preschool this year.  Although her preschool supplies a tote bag, each of the grandchildren were presented with a personalized tote bag from Mimi (me).  This is Treva's.  It has a little matching coin purse to carry a little change when she might need it.

First thing she did with it was to put her blanket into it!  She's a cutie!
