Today is Hadley's 5th birthday...

Today is Hadley's 5th birthday.  She's so excited to be five.  When I was a child, I loved signs...still do.  So, in honor of Hadley, Mimi created a quilted hanger for her bedroom door.  It declares it HER room.

We are celebrating twice for her birthday.  Tonight close-by family had dinner at one of Hadley's favorite restaurants...Chic-Fil-A...for her birthday dinner.

On Friday, we will travel (Mimi, Papa, Mama, Dada and Treva) to Aunt Kelly, Uncle Scott, Evelyn, Anna, Nathan and Vivian's house to go to Chuck E. Cheese for a bunch of fun!!

Baby Shower gift photos & new bracelet!

These pictures are of my most-recent finish.  I have a baby shower to attend this Saturday and this is my gift.  The baby's gender is unknown, so I went with a very neutral pallet.

The picture above is of the "drag-along blanket" that I make.  It's usually about 20 inches or so square.  Moms use them to cover the car seat often times, babies love them to drag about.

The pattern for the quilt is from Alex Anderson, at this moment I can't remember the name of the book.

This photo is my hand with my new bracelet that was made for me by my sweet daughter, Kelly!  I love it!

International Quilting Day

Today is International Quilting Day.  I have a "few" projects that I classify as UFO's (un finished objects), so I thought I'd do a little work on at least one and post a picture!  Have fun if you're quilting today, too!

Suffering is over

During the early morning hours, Jackie Carnahan, my brother's wife made her final journey.  I'm sorry for her suffering and I'm sorry for my brother as he loved her very much.  I pray for those she left behind, but I know in my heart that she must be glad to be free of her earthly body. Many people will mourn for her...I know many love her.

Sadness...

My sister-in-law, my brother's wife, is gravely ill.  She has cancer and has had cancer for many years.  It keeps attacking her more and more and she is now in her final days here on earth.  We weren't very close, but she is my brother's wife and I love her.  I hate that she is suffering.  I hate that my brother has to lose this woman from his life.  I worry about him.  I pray for her, for my brother, her children and her grandchildren.  Losing someone is a terrible thing.  I ask God's blessings.

Daylight Saving Time

I don't know about you, but I love Daylight Saving Time!!!

I'm really a morning gal, but I don't mind darkness in the morning.  Give me extra light-time evening hours and I'm one happy girl!  I can be outside longer, enjoying the dirt, the flowers, the birds, the neighbors and all the wonders that warmer temperatures and longer evenings bring.

The television news people are giving tips on how to "cope" with the time change!!!  Really?!   I have no problem with this time change in the spring.  Now the one in the fall where we lose an evening hour...well, that one is a little more difficult for me.

Remember...it's time to change the batteries in the smoke alarm(s), too.  Our smoke alarm serves a dual purpose in our home...it would alert us to smoke filling our home if there were a fire; but it's mostly used as a "dinner's ready" alarm when I cook!

It's sunny outside today, so I'm feeling very happy about that.  It's also cleaning day for us...we are hosting a neighborhood get together for one of our own who turns 81 years old tomorrow, so I would like the house to look "spiffy" for our guests.

Dear Lord, thank You for this glorious day and for the many blessings You have bestowed upon us.  In the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, Amen

Wonderwoman!

Last week, I cleaned my kitchen drain.  You know...they get kinda gunky and smelly, so I put baking soda in the drain followed by white vinegar.  I loved to watch it bubble and foam and remove all that icky stuff that likes to live in the dark tube called the drain.

Today Rick and I went to the store and I bought some of my yummies for this week.  I bought a couple of boxes of blueberries, 2 pounds of carrots, spinach and a beautiful head of cauliflower.  Now, my routine is to bring that stuff into the house and clean it, NOW.

Well, we unpacked all the other goodies we bought--put it all away and I started to go to work on cleaning the veggies and fruit.

Nope

The drain decide it wasn't going to drain.  UGH...  I got my little tool out that I use to clear out the bathroom drain of hair and soap residue.  Nope, that didn't do a thing for my issue.  I put some water on to boil and then put salt, baking soda and another big dose of vinegar.  More bubbling, more gurgling and just a little movement.  Ok...I think we are on to something!  Poured in the boiling water and NOTHING!!!!  Nope, it wouldn't budge a bit!  DARN!

A trip to the basement to hunt up the plunger. I waited for the boiling water to cool and then "Wonderwoman" went to town.  Hurray!!!  I cleared the drain!!!

I'm feeling VERY accomplished...just so you know!

Rambling

No pictures in this post, just some ramblings from a gal just wanting to gab...

Things have been busy at my house...lots of sewing has been done, most of it is being gifted soon, but still so much more to do.

My hubby has been under the weather, but he is getting better!

We took a road trip vacation to Florida that was like reliving our honeymoon (43 years ago) along with vacations we took to Florida when the children were little.  It was a fabulous vacation and we put about 3,000 miles on our car.  We went to Epcot a day, we went to beaches at Clearwater and Naples.  We loved spending one-on-one time with each other...took me waaay back in time!    We picked up shells, we laughed and watched a beautiful beach sunset.  The beach has a strange effect on me...makes me feel lonely sometimes and in chatting with the love of my life, I found he often feels the same way.  We watched pelicans diving into shallow waters to get their breakfasts, lunches and dinners.  We watched fishermen reeling their catch onto the pier FAST so that the dolphins didn't get them first.  We oooh'd and awe'd as we watched dolphins in the bay, seagulls that stole fish right out of the jaws of the dolphins and we laughed and gasped in delight.

We are back home, we are all settled in.  We have been working out (exercising) every day...doing what we should to become (and take care) of our healthiness!

We are eager for spring.  Truly eager.  We are tired of the cold and especially the gloom.  The gloom gets us down, so I purchased lights to help with seasonal affective disorder.  One of the lamps "crapped out" on us, so we are waiting for a replacement to come any day.  It's a wonderful amount of light and it does make you feel better.  But spring...spring, spring...it's wonderful.  We can't wait until spring; there is sunshine, blue sky and warmth.  Warmth that allows you to be outside more.  To rejuvenate your soul, as well as the flowers and other living things that open up and come alive when the weather takes a turn.

This Sunday we "jump ahead" and set the clocks ahead one hour.  I absolutely LOVE Daylight Saving Time.  Having an extra hour of daylight at the end of the day is an incredible thing.  It keeps you more active, you can do so much more with that hour at the end of the day.  I'm a morning gal, but I can do whatever I want in the dark if it's morning.  After dark at night, a body should be tucked in her home!!
